| WELCOME MESSAGE BY THE HON. MINISTER OF WORKS, MALAYSIA |
Dear Delegates,
I would like to bid you a warm welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Ministry of Works, Malaysia is very delighted and proud that Malaysia will be hosting the 12th Asia-Pacific ITS Forum and Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur on 16-18 April 2012. This forum is an important platform for us to exchange ideas, share experiences and update ourselves on the latest in the fast moving world of Intelligent Transport solutions and technologies. Indeed, ITS development in recent years have moved at such a fastpace that we are hard pressed to keep up with the latest emerging technological advances and the divergent skill required for a comprehensive understanding of the development, application, deployment, operation, maintenance and management of ITS.
As our Malaysian Government, and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole, move towards greater adoption of ICT as a leverage to propel our nation towards greater competitiveness, it is inevitable that ITS deployments will become more pervasive in the coming years.
The theme of the 12th Asia-Pacific ITS Forum and Exhibition is "ITS: POWERING TRANSFORMATION IN TRANSPORTATION". I believe this theme aptly encapsulates our Government's call for action which is to seek out new ways of re-energizing and transforming our transportation systems to become more adaptive to the sophisticated user demands; to drive greater cost efficiencies and to help establish sustainability in the way we plan, deploy, organise, operate and manage these increasingly complex systems.
The next several years will be very challenging for Malaysia as we embark on our various transformation programmes and initiatives, and in particular, ITS services related to multi-lane free flow toll collection system, travel time advisory services, and increased responsiveness to the road user needs in establishing safer roads, demand management and optimisation, and construction for sustainability. On behalf of the Ministry of Works, and ITS Malaysia, I very much look forward to meeting you in Kuala Lumpur and to have a lively exchange of ideas on the future and outlook of our ITS planning, development and deployment for our transport systems.
The 12th AP ITS Forum and Exhibition in KL in 2012 will also be a wonderful time to visit the many splendours of Malaysia. Please take this opportunity to extend your stay and enjoy the warm hospitality of our diverse cultures and to soak in the many sights and sounds of Malaysia. We look forward to seeing you in Malaysia.

On behalf of the 12th Asia-Pacific ITS Forum and Exhibition 2012, Organising Committee and the joint organisers, we are pleased to welcome you to participate in this Forum.
The organisers are inviting world-class speakers to this Forum, who are experts in their fields to share their knowledge and experiences with the participants.
For the benefit of the participants, we have planned various technical tours which is to be held on the last day of the Forum. We would be pleased and would encourage the participants to join these tours to explore and see first-hand the developments and achievements Malaysia has made in ITS. As for the spouses, various social programs have been planned to give them opportunities to experience the many splendours of Malaysia and to experience our diverse cultures.
In conjunction with this Forum, the Organisers would also hold an exhibition in which the exhibitors are among the main industry player in ITS, showcasing the latest products and development in ITS.
